Sun Lotus Yoga

WHEN YOU DO WHAT YOU LOVE : LOVE IS WHAT YOU DO

Sun Lotus Yoga is the practice shared by Sierra Hollister. Sun Lotus Yoga offerings are grounded in the ancient and sacred teachings of Kundalini and are usually some blend of asana, kriya, pranayama, mantra and meditation. As with all Kundalini, these offerings have the potential to range from gentle to vigorous, yet are always accessible to all levels.

Sun as the source of light, of life, the ultimate and grand nourishing spark. Lotus for the moon, for the cool, for the pure and for us ~ our beauty flowering up, rooted in the lovely mud of life on earth. Yoga is our union, with ourselves, each other, with earth, moon, sun and yoga is also our call to action, to work together to end pain and suffering, to seek liberation.

The right practice will align you to your true self~ your beautiful and divine self. The right practice will both hold you and set you free.

Sierra Hollister is a mother, runner, devoted yogini and dedicated environmental and social justice activist. Sierra’s yoga journey began with Sarah Powers, many, many years ago in California and in a beautiful non-linear way, carried her to Ahimsa Ashram. Here, she fell in love with Kundalini Yoga and studied directly with the man who carried the teachings of Kundalini from India. Since that time, Sierra has been inspired and shaped by the teachings of many, including Guru Rattana PhD, Guru Singh, Patabhi Jois, Gurmukh Kaur, GuruShabad Singh, David Swenson, Seane Corn, Pandit Rajmani Tigunait, Kartar Singh and Michael Stone. The incredibly beautiful people that have shown up to study with Sierra over the past 30 years have been instrumental in teaching Sierra, possibly more than all of her trainings and certifications. And, while not “yoga”, the teachings, writings and life of Joanna Macy have shaped Sierra as much as anything else.

On the teaching staff of Warren Wilson College and West Asheville Yoga, Sierra is also a Yoga International featured teacher. You can practice with Sierra virtually, or in real life at West Asheville Yoga.

As much as Sierra loves asana, pranayama, mantra, and meditation- she finds her life guidance in the words of Aadil Palkhivala:

“True yoga is not about the shape of your body but the shape of your life. Yoga is not to be performed; yoga is to be lived. Yoga doesn’t care about what you have been; yoga cares about the person you are becoming. Yoga is designed for a vast and profound purpose, and for it to be truly called yoga, its essence must be embodied.”
